Kos Airport to Kardamena: taxi, bus and transfer prices in 2026

Kos airport sits about 6 km from Kardamena, which is 7 to 10 minutes in a car. A taxi from the rank typically costs around €20 as of the 2026 season, a pre-booked private transfer runs from about €35 to €45, and the KTEL bus is €2.50 with the last departure at 21:35. No resort on Kos is closer to the terminal than we are, and this page tells you exactly how to cover that short distance.

How far is Kos airport from Kardamena?

Kos International Airport is named Ippokratis, its code is KGS, and it sits inland at Antimachia. The road distance to our village is about 6 km. Our own address is listed at 7.6 km from the terminal, which tells you how little difference the last turn makes. Either way, call it under 8 km and about 10 minutes.

Compare that with Kos Town, 24 km from the terminal and roughly 40 minutes away on the bus. If you have ever landed at 23:00 with a toddler asleep on your shoulder, the difference between 10 minutes and 40 is not a detail. It is the whole evening.

The airport is not a small one. It handled 3,069,569 passengers in 2024, up 3.9% on the year before, and the Fraport terminal was completed in 2021. In July and August the arrivals hall works hard. The reassuring part is that once you step outside with your bags, your journey is nearly finished.

The four options, compared

Prices below are what people reported through the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Treat them as a guide, not a quote, and read the sections underneath before you decide.

Taking a taxi from the rank

The rank is outside the terminal and it is the simplest thing you can do. The fare to Kardamena is typically around €20 as of the 2026 season, and we have seen reports of €15 when a car is shared. For scale, the same rank to Kos Town runs at about €40.

One thing matters more than the price. There is no official published Kos taxi tariff sheet available online, which means there is nothing you can point at afterwards. So agree the fare before you set off, out loud, before the boot is closed. Drivers here are used to the question and nobody takes offence.

At peak times the wait at the rank is usually no more than about 15 minutes. That is short by island standards, and it is short because the airport is small enough that the rank refills quickly between arrivals.

Pre-booked private transfers

A pre-booked private transfer runs from about €35 to €45, and a minibus for five or more adults starts from around €55. You are paying roughly double the taxi fare for three things: a driver already holding a sign when you walk out, a price fixed before you left home, and no conversation about money at the end of a long travel day.

We do not run the cars ourselves, so we will tell you plainly when a taxi is the better value choice, which for two people arriving at 11:00 on a Tuesday it usually is.

The KTEL bus, honestly

The bus is run by KTEL Kos and the stop is directly outside the arrivals terminal, so you do not have to hunt for it. The fare to Kardamena is €2.50 under the prices KTEL revised on 13 March 2026. Kos Town from the airport is €4.00, and Kos Town to Kardamena is €4.20 for a ride of about 40 minutes, which is useful to know for a day out later in the week.

Weekday departures from the airport to Kardamena, as the schedule stood in May 2026, are 09:00, 10:35, 13:35, 15:10, 17:05, 19:20 and 21:35. That last one is the one to write down. Timetables here change with the season, so confirm on 22420-22292 or at ktel-kos.gr before you plan around them.

Three more things people find out the hard way. Tickets are bought from the driver and you should carry cash, because card is not accepted on every route. Sunday services are severely reduced. And there is no service at all on Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Easter Monday.

Now the honest part. The bus saves you around €17.50 against a taxi, and it drops you in the village rather than at your door. With hand luggage and a good mood, that is a fine trade and the walk is flat. With two suitcases, a pushchair and a 30 °C afternoon, it is not. We say this even though the bus stop is close to us, because the message we get most often at 22:00 is from someone who chose the bus and then missed it. Package coach transfers and the 45 minute problem

If you booked a package, a coach transfer is probably included, and you may be surprised by how long it takes. Package coaches routinely take 45 minutes or more to reach Kardamena, against 7 to 10 minutes direct. Nothing has gone wrong. The coach is simply working through a list of hotel drops, and a village 6 km from the terminal is often not the first stop on that list.

It is included, so use it if you want to. Just do not build the evening around arriving quickly. If you have small children who have already been awake for ten hours, paying for a taxi on top of a transfer you have already bought is a defensible thing to do, and plenty of our guests do exactly that. Landing late at night

The last bus goes at 21:35, so anything later is a taxi or a transfer. Taxis do meet late flights, but they are not guaranteed at 23:00 and beyond, particularly when two late arrivals land close together. If your flight is scheduled after 22:00, pre-book. It is the single piece of advice on this page we would repeat twice.

On our side, check-in is from 15:00, but a late landing is not a problem. Tell us your flight number in advance and someone will be up with the key and the door open. We have done more 01:00 arrivals than we can count, and the kitchenette in every studio means you can make a coffee or warm milk before bed instead of hunting for somewhere still open.

If your tour operator transfer is cancelled

It happens, usually with a text message you read on the plane. Do not stand in the arrivals hall trying to get through to a call centre. Walk to the rank, agree a fare, and get here. Around €20 recovers your evening.

Keep whatever receipt the driver can give you and take a photo of the cancellation message. Then claim it back from the operator once you are home. Message us as well, because if we know you are coming under your own steam we will keep an eye out for you rather than assuming you are on a coach somewhere.

Is there aircraft noise in Kardamena?

People ask this before booking, and it is a fair question when the terminal is under 8 km away. So here is our answer as the family who sleeps here every night of the year.

You will hear aircraft. In high summer, with flights arriving through the day, you will hear them overhead as a distant sound while you are on the balcony or at the beach. It registers, then it passes. What we do not get is a constant background drone, because Kos is not a hub and the traffic comes in waves rather than continuously.

If you are a genuinely light sleeper, tell us when you book. Departure day, luggage and the last swim

Check-out is by 11:00, and later is often possible if the studio is not turning over the same day. Ask on WhatsApp the evening before rather than at 10:55 in the morning. If your flight is not until the evening, leave your bags with us, walk the 500 m down to the beach and have one more swim. The 10 minute drive is what makes that work. Two practical notes for the last day. Book your return taxi or transfer the day before, not on the morning itself, because departure mornings cluster and the whole village is trying to leave in the same two hours. And if you have been self-catering, use up what is in the fridge rather than shopping on day six, which is the sort of small thing that adds up over a week.
