To see Kos you need a car for at least part of your stay. Kardamena itself walks and the beach is 500 m, but the bus timetable is thin. 2026 prices, excess and licences.
The Nisyros boat leaves Kardamena about 09:30 and is back about 16:30. Tickets €25 to €35, plus about €15 for the volcano bus and crater fee.
Day trips from Kos: three ferry ports, and each trip leaves from a different one. Bodrum is 20 to 30 minutes by fast boat, Kalymnos from Mastichari.
Our own beach is 500 m from the door. Paradise Beach sits 20 km west with its volcanic bubbles, and two sunbeds with an umbrella cost about €10.
The Greek tourist tax is charged per unit per night, not per person: €2.00 for a studio, €10.00 for a 4 star hotel, and you pay it at check-out.
Spending money for a week in Kardamena: about €278 careful, €601 comfortable, €1,359 without counting, for a couple. Flights and rooms excluded.
Kardamena is good for families. The bar strip is 1.3 km from our door, the village holds about 1,650 people, and the beach faces south, out of the wind.
The best time to visit Kos is September: 27.6 °C days and a 25.6 °C sea, against 30.9 °C in July and August. Our honest verdict on every month.
Kardamena in October averages 23.6 °C by day with a sea still at 23.2 °C, direct flights to mid-month and car hire 30 to 50% below the July price.
